Tokunaga's 100-Year Journey

1923

In 1923, Keisaburo Tokunaga, the founder, established a construction contracting business at 1-33 Motomachi, Naka-ku, Yokohama City, starting the construction of Western-style stores and houses mainly in the Motomachi area.

1935

In 1935, Tokunaga Gumi Limited Partnership was established at the same location. Keisaburo Tokunaga was appointed as the representative partner, expanding the business centered on the construction and sale of ready-built houses.

1945

In 1945, the office and factory were relocated to 220 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama City (current site of the new Tokunaga Building), and started selling building materials such as lumber, roofing tiles, etc.

1946

In 1946, amid a shortage of building materials after the war, the lumber business was expanded to contribute to the regional reconstruction.

1950

In 1950, started contracting the construction of residences exclusively for foreigners around Sankeien and Yamate areas, pioneering the construction of Western-style houses for foreigners.

1953

In 1953, began the construction and rental business of residences for foreigners, mainly for the U.S. military stationed in Japan.

1956

In 1956, Tokunaga Building was constructed at 82 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama City, and began the building rental business.

1957

In 1957, started the construction and rental business of residences for the U.S. military stationed in Japan, mainly in Minami-Rinkan, Yamato City.

1961

In 1961, began land and house surveyor services.

1962

In 1962, established a subsidiary, Owners Shoji Co., Ltd., in Minami-Rinkan, Yamato City, and started the real estate business in the Yamato area.

1966

In 1966, the headquarters was moved to 82 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama City (current Tokunaga Building), and Tokunaga Construction Kogyo Co., Ltd. was established with a capital of 5 million yen, with Keiji Tokunaga appointed as the first president.

In 1966, ceased the construction contracting business and changed the main business to construction design supervision and house leasing. Obtained real estate transaction license (Kanagawa Prefecture Governor License No. 2336) and opened the real estate division.

1968

In 1968, a showroom was newly established in Tokunaga Building, starting the sale of fine art castings and various building materials.

In 1968, began management services for foreign residences mainly in the Yamate area.

1977

In 1977, the company name was changed to Tokunaga Building Co., Ltd. (currently a separate company), and the main business was changed to real estate leasing.

In 1977, a new company, Tokunaga Construction Kogyo Co., Ltd., was established with a capital of 5 million yen for the real estate and construction design department.

In 1977, obtained a new real estate transaction license (Kanagawa Prefecture Governor License No. 8990). Keiji Tokunaga was appointed as the first president.

1982

In 1982, the founder, Keisaburo Tokunaga, passed away.

1984

In 1984, the capital was increased to 10 million yen (as of now).

1994

In 1994, Fukuji Tokunaga was appointed as the president.

2003

In 2003, a real estate sales and consulting department and an interior construction department were newly established.

2005

In 2005, the company name was changed to Tokunaga Real Estate Co., Ltd. (as of now).

2013

In 2013, celebrated the 90th anniversary of its founding.

In 2013, Saburo Tokunaga was appointed as the president of Tokunaga Building, marking the transition to the third generation.

2023

In 2023, celebrated the 100th anniversary of its founding.

In 2023, established a development division (measures for vacant houses and cliff areas).

In October of the 12th year of Taisho (1923), he established an individual construction contracting business at 33 Yamate-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama City, starting with the construction of Western-style shops and homes primarily in the Yamate area. In May of the 10th year of Showa (1935), he established the Tokunaga Construction Co., Ltd. as a limited partnership and became its representative director. The business expanded with a focus on the construction and sale of pre-built homes. In March of the 20th year of Showa (1945), the office and factory were relocated to 220 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama City (currently the site of New Tokunaga Building), and the company started selling building materials such as lumber and roof tiles. Amid a shortage of building materials in the post-war period, he expanded the lumber business and contributed to regional recovery efforts.
